I Can't Believe I Did That

Yesterday I did something I swore I'd never do. In fact, I've never done it until yesterday. I don't know what came over me but I snapped and I did it.

We went to a fancy grocery store that has a really neat playground. After playing for a while we decided to go inside for a few things. Well, wouldn't you know that a fancy store would have balloons? So we got our balloons and groceries and proceeded to the parking lot.

Well, you know what happens next. Luke's balloon mysteriously slips off his wrist and floats gracefully up into the sky. At first Luke is in shock and I manage to get him, Max, and the groceries into the car. But then it happens. He completely loses it. He gets upset all the time, but somehow this was different. I just couldn't take his tears and heartbreak.

I know you know what I did. Yes, I turned the car around, re-parked, unbuckled both boys and went back into the store for another balloon. I still can't believe I did that. It's a stupid balloon. He would have gotten over it. By the time we got home, he would have forgotten all about it.

I know that sometimes we have to let the balloons go to teach our children that life is not fair and life sometimes makes us sad. But I think other times we have to rescue the balloons so that they will continue to believe there is good in life and sometimes people will go out of their way for each other.

With that in mind, I don't regret it. For one minute, I had the power to make my little boy happy and I did it. I don't think you get those chances very often so I'm glad I took it.

By the way, the balloon deflated over night and is now in the trash can. He's forgotten all about it, but I won't.
